Rick Cunningham, R.A., F. SAME
As City Planning Director, Rick Cunningham is responsible for the management and oversight of all divisions of the City of Omaha Planning Department. Cunningham a licensed architect, holds master’s degrees in architecture and engineering, and has participated in planning efforts at a local, and regional level. He returned to Omaha from Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) based in the Washington D.C. area, PB is one of the world’s leading planning, engineering, and program/construction management organizations. At PB, Cunningham was Senior Vice President and a National Sales Manager. Prior to his tenure at PB, Cunningham worked for HDR Engineering, Inc. for 17 years in Omaha, Kansas City and Richmond. At HDR, Cunningham was involved with regional and urban planning for metropolitan Kansas City and St. Louis. Cunningham serves on the National Board of Direction of SAME, has served on the Board of Directors of SafeHOME based in Kansas City and as a Board Member of the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce. He is a graduate of Omaha’s Central High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is also a graduate of Leadership Omaha, Leadership Overland Park, and Leadership Kansas programs.
